Costco does in fact accept Mastercard. I use mine there all the time. They just can't return money to a Mastercard. They'll give you cash not some store credit card.

Mastercard policy only applies to credit cards. Use debit, no problem.

I remember a few years back there were all these people claiming they are able to constantly travel for free just using just the cash back on credit cards. This is how that “scam” works

Credit card companies reverse the cash back when you return items.
The refund cancels the reward.
