The thanos build up is over exaggerated. Besides his gotg appearance he had no characterisation or lore in universe. People only knew who he was because of comic readers who kept posting and talking about it then he got a whole movie to expand his lore. I mean all you knew about him going in if youā¦

There is literally nothing wrong with a movie or show to be just an ad for the toys as long as the story is written competently and it is entertaining. For example vide 80's cartoons.
