Best explanation for why this isn’t a good tournament format:
Imagine a rock paper scissors tournament where you have to lock in your choice at the start and stick to it.
The random choice has too much influence on the result.

Watching this video after Wolfe got haxxed out of NAIC. Granted, he also got as far as he did with some rng of his own, but losing to rock slide spam is just disappointing to watch.
